Birth: Aug. 18, 1806
Death: Jun. 25, 1878

Born in Chesterfield, SC. Son of Nathan Noel Slay (1765-1843) and Martha Ann Sumrall (1765-1825). Married Elizabeth McClean on 22 March 1827. Emigrated to Copiah County, MS from Wayne County, MS in the 1830's. Had twelve children. All eight sons enlisted in Confederate Service. Son Elijah, Capt in 16th Mississippi Infantry, killed at Cold Harbor, VA, June, 1864. Son Cincinatus killed at Iuka, December, 1864.
