Floyd Lee Autrey



Floyd Lee Autrey, 83, of Marion, McDowell County, N.C., died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006 at his residence after a long illness.

A native of Yancey County, N.C., he was the oldest son of nine children born to the late Walter and Dorothy Carroway Autrey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Bobby, Bill and Arthur Autrey and a sister, Mary Lou Autrey.

He was former postmaster of Celo post office and part-owner of Yancey Sand and Gravel for many years.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Bernice Martin Autrey; sons, Jack and wife, Rachel Shell Autrey of Marion, Don and wife, Deborah Hines Autrey of Goldsboro, Bobby and wife, Tami Warren Autrey of Marion; a daughter, Patricia and husband, Joe Crowder of Marion; grandchildren, Ryan, Shane, Jennifer and Desiree; great-grandchildren, Christian and Chelsey; brothers, Jay Autrey and wife, Robbie, of Burnsville, James Autrey and wife, Shelia, of Waynesville; and a sister, Flossie and husband, Marshall McMahan of Cornelia, Ga.

Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home in Burnsville.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Carroway Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
