Birth: Apr. 30, 1833
Death: Aug. 25, 1885

James B. Arendale was the son of Joel Blackwell Arendale, Sr. and Elizabeth Dare Arendale. He is descended from the early American Dare family, relatives of the legendary Virginia Dare of the Jamestown settlement, first baby of European descent born on the continent. His father was listed in the Confederate Citizen's file, having helped the cause of the Confederacy through providing meat for the troops.

According to the book "The Heritage of Jackson County Alabama Vol. 36", he was the husband of Mary Paralee Price Arendale and his birth and death dates are 4-30-1833 and 8-25-1885.

He fought in the Civil War in the 3rd Regiment Company G of the Confederate Cavalry (Howard's). His rank was 1st Lieutenant. A Civil War record shows he was hospitalized in July, 1862 in the CSA Hospital in Danville, Virginia.

After the war, he returned to Marion County, Tennessee and then to Bridgeport, Alabama and was a farmer.

He is buried adjacent to the grave of their daughter, Minnie Susan Arendale Williams, and her husband Sherrod Absalom Williams in the Mount Carmel graveyard near Bridgeport, AL.
