Nephi was the son of James Peter LARSEN and Anna LARSON Larsen. His father was born in Denmark and his mother was born in Sweden. His father helped haul rock for the Salt Lake City Temple.

On June 11, 1919, he married Carrie Ovida NIELSEN.

Nephi died of dropsy, having suffered for two years with a bloodclot resulting from hitting the inside of his leg with an axe handle while splitting wood. When he died, his son Russell was away in the Navy for the war, so they held Nephi's body until the day after the funeral until Russell arrived home.

He only went through the 5th grade in school, but he was a successful farmer in the Paradise area of Cache Co., Utah.

He and Carrie's infant son Devon is also buried in the Hyrum cemetery.
