(December 22, 1933 - May 24, 2016)

Mrs. Valeda Bryant Cureton, 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 24th at Jefferson County Nursing Home in Dandridge, Tennessee.

Valeda was born in Newport, Tennessee, on December 22, 1933 to the late Aubrey and Edith Bryant. She attended Newport Grammar School and graduated from Cocke County High School in 1951.

After completing a course at Knoxville Business College, she married her high school sweetheart, Fred H. “Scrub” Cureton and they were blessed with five children: Don, Vicki, Alice, Patti, and April.

In 1978, at the age of 49, her husband, "Scrub," died suddenly as a result of complications associated with open heart surgery. Although Valeda was only 44 years old at that time, she had no desire to remarry. After 38 years living as a widow, she is now reunited with the love of her life, as well as her beloved son, Don Cureton; grandson Daniel McNabb; brother, Greer Bryant, and her parents.

Mrs. Cureton will live on in the memories of her loving daughters, Vicki McNabb, Knoxville, TN; Alice Martin, Lexington, TN, Patti Banker, Knoxville, TN, and April Sullivan, Seabrook, TX. She is also survived by a sister, Norma Jean Henry; six grandchildren: Jason Williford, Lucas Mcnabb, Megan Snyder, Mathew Banker, Montana Sullivan, Nash Sullivan, and three great grandchildren: Justin, Mason and Chloe Williford.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all who visited Valeda and sent cards of support over the past few months as well as to those who have expressed condolences since her passing.

Friends will be received from 5 to 7pm on Sunday, May 29th at Manes Funeral Home, with funeral services to follow immediately after. Rev. Marta Cogburn will officiate. Burial is planned for Monday, May 30th at 11am in Union Cemetery.
