MODOC - Edward Enghaus, 89, of Modoc, IN passed away early Sunday morning, January 15, 2012 in Winchester, IN.
He was born April 19, 1922 in Richmond, IN the son of Charles and Dorthea (Bond) Enghaus. After losing his parents at a very early age, he was raised by his foster parents, Ralph and Theodosia Moore of Huntsville, IN. He was a 1941 graduate of Huntsville High School.
Ed honorably served as a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp. during WW II. He was overseas from 1943-44, serving with the 455 Bomb Group, 742nd Bomb Squadron known as the Vulgar Vultures. He flew 50 missions, mainly over the Polesti Oil Fields and major railroad connections in Germany.
Edward was a lifelong farmer near Huntsville and sold Pioneer Seed Corn for thirty-eight years. He believed that conservation of the land was very important and received the Randolph County Master Farmer Award in 1992.
Ed enjoyed his family and reminiscing with friends who visited him. One of his pastimes was playing cards with friends and family. Ed bought the Huntsville Community Building in 2002 and helped make it a viable facility for family reunions, showers and many other community activities.
Edward leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Kathy Beumer (husband, Greg) of Modoc, IN; a daughter-in-law, Winifred Enghaus (Ed Akin) of Fishers, IN; a sister, Marie Baker of Decatur, IN; six grandchildren, Bradley Enghaus (Penny) of Seattle, WA, Kerry Beatty (Scott) of Winchester, IN, Heather Kenison (Matt) of Carmel, IN, Brad Beumer (Kellie) of Sydney, Australia, Suzannah White (Braulio Fernandez) of Chicago, IL and Alison Beumer (Andrew Noga) of Indianapolis, IN; fifteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marceil Enghaus, Ruth Adamson, Jean Grounds (Carl) and Joyce Thornburg; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend and caregiver, Beth McMillan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; foster parents; his wife, Juanita Enghaus; a son, Edward Enghaus, Jr.; two brothers, Charles Enghaus and John Dill; two brothers-in-law, James Adamson and Max Adamson.
A service to celebrate Edward's life will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Thomas Memorial Chapel of Lynn, IN with Dr. Alison Syme officiating. Burial will follow in Buena Vista Cemetery of Unionport, IN.
Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the funeral home.
