MURPHYSBORO - Florence D. Clutts, 88, of Murphysboro, passed away at 12:50 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Funeral services will be held at Pettett Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30, with Revs. Richard Kinnoman and Phillip Nordstrom officiating.
Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and until 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or the Food Pantry.
Florence was born on April 15, 1918, in Jackson County, to Herbert Cochran and Zella May (Knight) Cochran.
Mrs. Clutts was a member of the First Baptist Church in Murphysboro. She was a member of the VFW Post 7190 Ladies Auxiliary.
She worked for forty years at the former Brown Shoe Company until it closed; she then worked at Borgsmiller Jewelry for five years. Later, Mrs. Cluttts volunteered at the Food Pantry in Murphysboro.
Florence was a wonderful seamstress and she sewed for her family and many friends. She made a lot of crafts including hand made dolls. She was a very good cook and she was known for her chicken and dumplings at the Chestnut Cafe in DeSoto when it was owned by David and Ruth Clutts.
Florece married Lester Clutts on Feb. 20, 1937 in Murphysboro, and he preceded her in death on June 9, 2004.
She is survived by six grandchildren David Lee Clutts Jr. and his wife Theresa Clutts of Channahon, Robin Williams and her husband Kevin Williams of DeSoto, Kateena LeForge and her husband Joe LeForge of DeSoto, Laura James and her husband Greg James of Vergennes, Amanda Hine and her husband Jamie Hine of Murphysboro, and Thomas W. Jones of Murphysboro; ten great-grandchildren Jared Clutts, Courtney Clutts, Erin Williams, Denton Williams, Caitlyn Ruph, Roni Jo LeForge, Garrett James, Ashley Hine, Grant Hine, and Madison Hine; one daughter in law Ruth Clutts Bowlby of DeSoto; one son in law Thomas Jones of Murphysboro; one brother Donald Cochran of Oceanside, California; one sister Alice Gola of St. Louis, Missouri.
Mrs. Clutts was preceded in death by one son David Lee Clutts; one daughter Sharon Kay Jones; five brothers Kenneth, John, William, Robert, and Edward Cochran; two sisters Ethel Loomis and Opal Butler, and her parents.
Florence was a very compassionate and courageous lady, who gave strength to all who knew her. "Whatever is to be, will be."
