Many friends and business acquaintances paid their last respects to the memory of the late William B. Gates Saturday afternoon when funeral services were held at the home, 516 Pontotoc avenue. Services were conducted by the Revs. Ben Cox and Nicholas M. Long, and interment was in Forest Hill cemetery. Mr. Gates, who was one of the prominent business men of Memphis and until his retirement six years ago, head of the cotton firm of Wm. B. Gates company, died Friday morning following a long illness.
Pallbearers were:
Active-Dr. Otis Ware, Dr. Henry C. Watkins, Noland Fontaine, Frank Hill, Gilmer Winston, S.M. Williamson, C.P.J. Mooney, Raiford Matthews and Thomas Flippin.
Honorary-Capt. Dennis Smith, W.J. Crawford, J.E. Beasley, J.T. Walsh, Noah Speers, Charles W. Metcalf Sr., Dan F. Elliotte, Capt J.C. Wyckoff, W.A. Collier and Thomas H. Jackson.

Memphis, May 8--The will of W.B. Gates, Memphis merchant, probated here today, provides that his wife is to be cut out of her bequest if she puts flowers on his grave or wears mourning.
