Film Director. A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, he is probably best known for directing the 1983 television mini-series "The Thorn Birds", starring Richard Chamberlain. In 1971, Duke received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Drama for an episode from the television series "The Bold Ones", entitled "The Day the Lion Died". His notable theatrical films include "The Silent Partner" (1978) and "Tai-Pan" (1986). Cause of death: Pulmonary Fibrosis.
