ST. CHARLES -- The funeral for Gordon A. Bakkum will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church in St. Charles, with the Rev. Ron Warnes officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Jordan, Minn.
Mr. Bakkum, 64, of St. Charles, died Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2006) at Lake Winona Manor in Winona.
He was born March 22, 1942, in Rushford. He lived with his family in Greenleafton and Carimona, both in Fillmore County, for a brief time and in Preston for nine years. He then moved with his family to Yucatan Ridge, near Rushford, in 1953. He graduated from Rushford High School in 1960. He married Darlene Fitz on June 11, 1966, in Wayzata, Minn. They lived in Minneapolis for 32 years, where he worked as a janitor and managed apartments. His wife died May 12, 1997. He moved to Wadena, Minn., in 1998, and to St. Charles in June 2003. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his mother, Gertie Bakkum of Rushford; a brother, Kenneth (Catherine) of Rushford; and two sisters, Alice (Roger) Boyum of Peterson and Marie (Glenn) Ingalls of Rochester. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father and a brother.
