Gerald William Boyer, the son of William and Daisy (Shields) Boyer, was born February 24, 1924 in Scranton, IA, where his dad ran automotive repair shop in Winterset. They moved to Wallingford, where they attended country schools and he helped around the farm. He also lived around Arnolds Park, where Gerald loved to go roller skating with his brothers.

He met Ruby Soper at the Faith Tabernacle Church, where they were married on Halloween in 1946. Gerald farmed for 40+ years until their retirement. After their retirement, they bought a house in Florida, where they traveled for several winters to be near their family. He enjoyed watching the grandchildren play sports in Florida and Iowa. He always talked about his grandchildren and were so proud of them all. In 1999, Gerald and Ruby moved to Spencer, Iowa. Ruby went to be with the Lord on April 16, 2003.

Gerald married Ethel (Bunkofske) Delan on November 27, 2004 in Estherville, Iowa and they made their home in Spencer. Gerald enjoyed the noon luncheons at Wild Rose with his family and friends.

Gerald passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his parents; his 1st wife, Ruby in 2003; two grandchildren; a son-in-law, Peter Gronbeck; three brothers: Donald, Ernie and Lloyd Boyer; 3 sister-in-laws: Evelyn, Marvene and Earlene and a daughter-in-law, Rose Boyer.
