Lysle Eugene Musgrove was born August 28, 1912 to S. Alfred and Ruby (Sawyer) Musgrove in Boone County, Iowa. Lysle graduated from Gilbert High School. He entered the U.S. Army on June 8, 1942 in Boone and served during WWII. He was discharged at Ft. Sheridan on November 12, 1945.

Lysle came back to the family farm in Gilbert and farmed there for two years. He and Goldie Marie Matthews were married on August 23, 1947. They bought a dairy farm near Turlock, Ca. and worked that for 23 years. After living in California for a total of 33 years, they moved back to Ames in 1979.

Lysle began bowling at age 60 and bowled, drove, and lived on his own until the last month of his life. He was an Iowa State basketball fan, and member of the First Baptist Church of Turlock, the Ames American Legion and the Boone County Historical Society.

Lysle passed away at 103 years of age on May 5, 2016 at Story County Hospital in Nevada.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Goldie, on February 11, 1980; two brothers, Claire Musgrove and Gail Musgrove; and one sister, Mabel Lee McDonald.
