---------- IN MEMORIAM ----------
---- JOHN REINHOLD ANDREWS ----
A retired minister of the Southern California Conference, was born on the Island of Orland, Sweden, May 5, 1851 and died in his home in Kingsburg, California, February 10, 1936, 84 years, 9 months and 5 days old. At the age of 18 he came to America, landing in Chicago, where he soon found lucrative employment. Soon after his arrival he came into contact with the Methodists, surrendered his life to Christ and joined the Methodist Church. He felt the call to preach, and not "disobedient to the heavenly vision" he matriculated as a student in the Swedish Theoligical Seminary, a Methodist institution in Evanston, Illinois, where he received the preparation for his high calling. In 1880, in Chicago, he married Jenny Marie Danielson, with whom he lived a happy and beautiful married life for almost half a century until her death six years ago. He leaves to mourn his memory two daughters, Mrs. F. W. Olson, of Stockton, California, and Miss Mable, who so devotedly and lovingly has cared for her father durings his declining years; also four sons, G. E. Andrews of Modesto, California, C. R. Andrews, E. J. Andrews, and Dr. J. V. Andrews, all of Kingsburg, and nine grandchildren. One daughter Sophie C. Tucker, beloved by all, has gone before him to the heavenly home. In addition he leaves a large circle of friends both in California, where he has been a resident for almost fifty years, and in the East, especially in the churches he has served as pastor.
As a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Brother Andrews had a singular record and a very successful and blessed ministry.
He is fallen, this "grand old man" of Kingsburg and the church of Jesus Christ. He leaves those of us whom he has fathered, pastored, and brothered. He has been a fine example to us. Through his life we have learned to know God better. We shall miss him greatly, and Kingsburg will not seem the same now that he is gone.
The funeral services were held in the Kingsburg Methodist Church, his church, since the early days of his ministry. The former pastors of the Kingsburg Methodist Church, Rev. Abel Eklund performed prayer, and Rev. O. W. Ostrom the service with prayer and the benediction. His remains were laid to rest in the beautiful Kingsburg Cemetery, Kingsburg, California.
