Elva Effie Gibson, 91, of Teton City, died April 28, 2016 at the St. Anthony Homestead Assisted Living. She was born July 20, 1924, in Teton City to Robert and Effie Thomas Thomson.

She received her education in Teton City and graduated from Madison High School.

After World War II, Elva was married to Cornelius V. “Gib” Gibson. They made their home in Teton City.

Elva worked for seed houses in St. Anthony, for Mountain Bell, and for Roger Brothers where she was a floor lady. She was well respected and fair to everyone. She would never ask anyone to do a job that she was not willing to do herself.

Elva and Gib were very patriotic members of the V.F.W.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various positions.

She loved yard work and being in the outdoors. She loved animals, especially cats which she had many. She raised them like her own family.

Elva was a very quiet person and has requested that there be no viewing or funeral, just a graveside service.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Thella, and brother-in-law Dean Cummins. She is survived by her foster brother Tharen Garrett, and foster sisters Mauna Shadoan and Verona Powell and many cousins.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3, in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery under the direction of Baxter Funeral Home.

Elva was blessed with many wonderful friends and neighbors who helped care for her.

Her family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at The Homestead in St. Anthony and Rexburg Home Health and Hospice for their compassion and kindness while Elva was in their care.
