His friendship with Amos Stauffer of Stauffer Diesel, Inc. began his love of all things in tractor pulling. He ran a Deutz stock tractor of 2 years, then a modified Ford with a Lincoln motor for another year. When he sold that tractor he took up the mantle of track official and spent the next few years officiating at all the Pennsylvania sanctioned tractor pulls. In 1978 he had the unfortunate luck to overturn his foot that resulted in a severe broken ankle and he had to sit on the sidelines. One night at the Buck Motorsports Park sitting with his foot propped up, he was asked to help in the announcers stand, cast and all. That began his career announcing Motorsports events all over the U.S.
At the Buck, from May till October you could find him up in the announcers booth with the mike in his hand and a smile on his face. He became known as the "Voice of the Buck" and in 2010 after 32 years, he retired, but filled in a couple times over the next 5 years. Whenever he did a show, you'd find both he and his wife Dotty up in the booth. His son Scott also worked at the Buck Motorsports Park, so you could say it was a family affair.
Ozz's other love was his red 33 Plymouth street rod. He bought it 6 years ago and with Scott's help it became a crowd favorite at local car shows and won many trophies. He had always wanted a street rod for showing and cruising and he got a really great one in this one. It has a 440 Chrysler motor with polished aluminum long rams and lots and lots of chrome.
Ozz was involved in many Motorsports organizations and served as President of Eastern Mud Racers Assn., held various offices in S.E. Penna Tractor Pullers Assn, the Penna. Tractor Pullers Assn. and served as a representative to the National Tractor Pullers Assn. He was a founding member of The Road Deacons Hot Rod Club and a life member of The Vagabonds Rod & Custom Club. He also had a passion for rescuing Chinese shar-pei dogs and was a member of Operation Scarlet, inc of Lancaster, a shar-pei rescue organization.
