Anna "Annie Moore" Schayer
Birth: Apr. 24, 1874
County Cork, Ireland
Death: Dec. 6, 1924
Manhattan
New York County (Manhattan)
New York, USA

Historical figure, Anna "Annie" Moore Schayer, was the first immigrant processed through Ellis Island. On January 1, 1892, Annie and her two younger brothers, Anthony and Phillip, came to America from Ireland on the steamship Nevada. They were reunited with their parents who had been living on the lower east side of New York City for three years. She married Joseph Augustus Schayer, Sr. a bakery clerk, and gave birth to ten children; five of whom are buried with her. Annie died of heart failure in 1924.

Update: A genealogist found Annie's birth certificate in Ireland. Annie was born May 24, 1874 and not April as stated on her headstone.
