Son of Benjamin Martin and Mary Ann Dingle of 8 Childs Street, Lidcombe, New South Wales.
A foreman prior to enlisting in the Australian Imperial Force, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT "Ballarat" (A70) on 6 September 1915. On 12 August 1916, aged 22, he was in action in a gun pit on the front line at Mouquet Farm, France and was killed by an enemy shell.
