Mr. Kenneth Rex Wainright, 82, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016 at his home.

The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 3 PM in Bethany Free Will Baptist Church, officiated by his pastor, Rev. Glenn Batten. Burial will follow in Homestead Memorial Gardens, Greenville.

Rex, a native of Pitt County, was son of the late Fred Herman and Lucy Avery Wainright. He lived all of his life on his family farm on Speight Seed Farm Rd. He was employed as a salesman with Phelps Chevrolet for 50 years. He was a longtime member of Bethany Free Will Baptist, where he had served as deacon, trustee, president of the Layman’s League and was active in youth work. He had also been active in the Free Will Baptist Central Conference Layman’s League for many years.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Herman, Marvin, and Horace and sisters, Margaret, Dessie, Annie Ree and Magdalene.

He is survived by: His wife of 47 years, Louise Alford Wainright; Daughters, Angela W. West and husband Steve and Melody W. Richardson and husband Wayne all of Winterville; Grandchildren, Mallory Smith, Boman Richardson, Cooper Richardson, Paige Horne and husband, Lanny, and Graysen West; great-grandaughter, Audrey Horne; and was “Papa” to all the children at Bright Beginnings, his daughters’ childcare center.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 – 8 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Bethany Free Will Baptist Youth, 4256 NC 903 S, Winterville, NC 28590 or Camp Vandemere, 215 3rd St, Vandemere NC, 28587.
