Leonard Haecke was born October 28, 1926, at LaPlatte, Sarpy County, Nebraska to Charley and Viola (Stander) Haecke.

He was born Oct. 28, 1926, at LaPlatte and grew up on the family farm there. Haecke served with the U. S. Army in 1945 and 1946 and returned to Omaha and worked as an auto mechanic. He later drove a truck in Omaha for Ringsby and then was an agent for Standard Oil in Bellevue. Later, he operated a bar in Springfield and in 1972, moved to Arlington, where he operated a bar. In 1976, he opened Haecke’s Schwinn Cyclery bicycle shop in Fremont and moved from Arlington to Fremont in 1979.

Haecke was a member of American Legion Post 500 of Lincoln and the National Bicycle Dealers Association.

He married Barbara Geschke March 29, 1947, in Tekamah. They were blessed with three children.

Leonard F. Haecke, 66, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1993, at 1540 W. 12th St., his home in Fremont, Nebraska.

Left with memories are his wife; daughters, Cheryl Haecke of Lake Elsinore, Calif., and Vicki Haecke-Nelson of Fremont; a son, Kirk and wife Rose of Fremont; two brothers, a twin, Richard of Plattsmouth, NE and Charles of Murray, NE; two sisters, Mildred Grisinger of Plattsmouth and Gladys Coward of Dublin, Ga.; his stepmother, Aline Haecke of Fremont; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont, Nebraska. The funeral for Leonard F. Haecke, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Donald Levenhagen will conduct the service and offer words of comfort. Visitation will be Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. A memorial has been established to the American Heart Association.
