Suggested edit: Richard Lanford first married Parmelia Woodruff and eventually moved his family to Alabama. He later returned to South Carolina and married Permelia Shands White while still legally married to Parmelia Woodruff. Newspaper accounts and family information indicate that he was eventually convicted of bigamy in Spartanburg County, SC and was sentenced to 3 years in jail. It does not appear that he ever returned to his Alabama family or spent any time in jail.
