James Donald Haley, 88, of Bay City, Texas, passed away September 13, 2005, in Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

He was born July 26, 1917, in Broadford, Pa., son of the late Anthony J. and Bridget Grace Haley.

He was raised in Buffington, Pa. and graduated from Redstone High School in 1937, where he lettered in baseball and football.

He received his B.S. Degree in 1948 and his M.S. Degree in 1951 from Baylor University.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army Air Force, a life member of Philip H. Parker VFW Post 2438, a former member of the Bay City Rotary Club, a board member and chairman for the Bay City Public Library, and he was a life member of the Baylor Alumni Association.

Mr. Haley coached baseball and football at Bay City High School from 1949 to 1972, he was head coach for 19 years, and was inducted in Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor. He retired from Bay City School District in 1981 with 33 years of service.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Evelyn McNabb Baker Haley of Bay City; a son: Charles Baker and wife, Fran of Bay City and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and a niece in Texas. Other surviving relatives include: a sister, Eileen Haley Donovan of Buffington, Pa. and nieces: Donna Haley Weimer and husband, Tom of Carmichaels, Pa., Jean Haley Bell and husband, Harold of Uniontown, Pa., Sheila Haley Yauger and husband, Newt of Lemont Furnace, Pa., Robert James "Jimmie" Haley and wife, Lisa of Peoria, Ariz., Robert "Duke" Donovan of Chester, Va. and Kevin Donovan (Ginny) of Leesburg, Va.

In addition to his parents, his sister, Virginia Haley and his brothers, John "Red," Haley and Raymond Haley, all of Buffington, Pa. and Robert E. "Bob" Haley of Uniontown, Pa., predeceased him.

Friends were received at the TAYLOR BROS. FUNERAL HOME, BAY CITY, TEXAS. A Funeral Mass was held on Friday, September 16, 2005, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Bay City, followed by interment at Matagorda Cemetery.
