Henry Barthel, a retired farmer, died at his home, 1100 Scheel Street at 3 p.m., Wednesday.
He was born on Twelve Mile Prairie on September 28, 1851 and was married to Miss Mathilda Hepp 37 years ago.
He leaves his wife and the following children: Edwin, Alvin, Henry, Louis, Mathilda and Edna Barthel; Annie, wife of Jacob Stahlheber and Margaret, wife of Henry Stahlheber. Also surviving are one brother, Charles Barthel of St. Louis and three sisters: Louisa Lischer of New Athens; Sophia Olendorf, Belleville and Bertha Keller, St. Louis.
Mr. Barthel was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.
The funeral will take place at 3 p.m., Saturday from the home to Walnut Hill Cemetery. Rev. Otto Pessel will officiate.
