Musician. A native of Cohassett, Massachusetts, Petze was a drummer with the 1960s musical group, The Rondels. Formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1961, the other members included guitarist Leonard Petze, saxophonist Raymond Pizzi, and drummer Lenny Collins. Known for their styles of rockabilly, instrumental, and surf music, they were often mistaken for Delbert McClinton's Ron-Del's (sometimes called the Rondells), and an Australian rock group called the Rhondells. Together the group recorded several hit songs including, "Greensleeves", "Shades Of Green", "My Prayer", "Satan's Theme", "Caleconia", "110 Pounds Of Drums", "Cover Charge", "Meet Me At The Peppermint Lounge", "Flute Salad", and "Red Peppers", but they are best remembered for their hit single, "Back Beat No. 1;" the single released in 1961 peaked at #66 on the music charts in Europe that August. The band also toured extensively and often appeared on "The Jackie Gleason" television show, before they disbanded. Following the breakup of the group Petze went onto a career as a successful businessman and baseball coach. He died from cancer at the age of 48. (bio by: K) Search Amazon for James Petze
