Professional Athlete. In Boy Scouts he achieved the Rank of Eagle Scout with gold and silver palms. He was the student body president at Drake High School in San Anselmo, California. In high school he was a star player in football, basketball, and track. His senior year he was elected as a High School All American. He was enshrined in the Marin County High School Hall of Fame. He attended college at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. In his freshman year he set records in shot put, discus, and track for freshmen in the Northwest Conference. In his junior and senior years he was elected honorable mention in America in football. In basketball he was starting center and received all league mention all four years. Upon graduation, he received a blanket with 12 varsity letters, the most for an Idaho athlete. He was enshrined in the University of Idaho Tower of Fame, where his varsity blanket is permanently displayed. Upon graduation in 1961, he was drafted in the 17th round by the San Diego Chargers to play tight end. He was elected to and played in the 1963 AFL all-star game. In 1963 he was traded to the Oakland Raiders. In 1964 he was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs where he played in two super bowls, the first and the fourth. In Super Bowl I he received a conference ring when the Chiefs lost to Green Bay 35 to 10 on January 15, 1967. He received a super bowl ring in Super Bowl IV when the Chiefs won over the Minnesota Vikings 23 to 7 on January 11, 1970. He had played for the Chiefs seven years when he retired in 1971. His picture along with his son Brett is in the Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio for father and son in professional football. Reg remained physically active all his life. He passed away in 1983 while jogging around Phoenix Lake in Marin County. He was cremated at Bahia Valley Memorial Park in Novato on Januray 5, 1982.
