DAVENPORT - Samuel B. Wilkins, Sr., of Davenport, Iowa, passed away peacefully, at his home, with his wife and loved ones at his side. Celebration of life services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family. Sam was born Aug. 22, 1944, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Harold B. and Irene (Howard) Wilkins. He married Gloria Jean Mendoza on March 7, 1964, in Bettendorf. He worked, at the Caterpillar plant in Mt. Joy, Iowa, for several years, before retiring as a fork lift operator. Sam was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport. He enjoyed working on cars, going fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, Angel. Sam was a very caring and helpful man and a friend to everyone. Survivors include his wife, Gloria; daughters, Tina (Mike) Hauser, Davenport, Stacey (Leo) Kelly, Bettendorf, Ann (Craig) Malsam, Bettendorf; son, Sammy (Jamie) Wilkins, Jr., Davenport; ten grandchildren, Matt, Ben and Samantha Hauser, Cassie, Jacob and Paige Kelly, Brett and Kylie Malsam, Abbey and Josie Wilkins; sisters, Susie Rostenbach, Colleen Marshall and Barb Jacobson, all of Davenport; brother, Bill Wilkins, Ottumwa, Iowa; and Sam's dog, Angel. Sam was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Deweese, Sharon Tee, Laura May and Inez Marie; two brothers, Luke and Robert Wilkins. A special "Thank You" to Genesis West Oncology Unit Nursing Staff and Doctors and a very special "Thank You" to Genesis VNA Hospice.
