William H. Ward Jr.

ALBANY William H. Ward Jr., 63, of 811 Rosedale Ave. died Saturday, September 23, 2006, at Ashburn Health Care in Ashburn, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2006, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Dr. Daniel Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.

William Holley Ward Jr. affectionately known as "Billy" saw the light of day on March 10, 1943. He was one of seven children born to the late William Holley Ward Sr. and the late Mary Lou Thompson Ward.

He was a great cook and an avid golfer. Billy, also enjoyed playing checkers with his brothers and watching football and golf on television. Billy was pleasant, friendly and fun loving. He always brought light into a room with his smile and laughter. He was a true family man. Billy loved his entire family, but he was especially bonded with his siblings.

Billy was a brick mason by trade. His work is seen in many landmarks throughout Dougherty County. The brick crosses embedded in the walls of this sanctuary, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, are examples of his craftsmanship. The work was completed by Billy and his father, the late William H. Ward Sr.

During his illness, Billy was not able to attend church often. However, he found great peace when he viewed the televised program. "Walking In The Light" and listened to taped sermons preached by his pastor, Dr. Daniel Simmons.

Mr. Ward is survived by his wife, Delorice Johnson Ward; three sons, Todd Turman of California, William H. Ward III and Terrence Ward of Albany; two daughters, Tasha Harris and LaToya Ward of Albany. He was the father to four stepchildren, Angela Johnson, Cedrick Johnson, Deirdre Hebert (Joseph) and Kofi Johnson. His siblings include Barbara W. Carroll of Albany, Rev. Dr. Gloria W. Wright (Daniel W. Jr.) of Atlanta, Ernest J. Ward of Albany, Carl F. Ward (Deanna) of Atlanta, Ella Jeane Ward of Riverdale and Cassandra D. Ward of Smyrna. Additionally, he is survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of loving and devoted friends.
