Born in Kansas City, Missouri. Went to Germany with her mother when very young. Her mother died while in Germany sometime after her sister was born in 1890. Her father left the USA to return to Germany for several years when her mother was ill and couldn't travel. He subsequently remarried Ida after his first wife's death. Both girls were raised by their stepmother. The family returned to the US in 1905. She married Mulford Foster, a prominent naturalist and lived in Cold Springs, PA until the mid 1920's. They moved to Florida. She had 4 children and ultimately several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was divorced in 1933 and came to live with her oldest daughter, Gerda and son-in law in California where she died.
