William R. ”Bill" Merrell, 74, passed away Mar. 5, 2016 at Rush Memorial Hospital.

He was born Jan. 4, 1942 in Connersville, IN to the late Jean and Blanch (Kelly) Merrell. Following graduating Milroy High School in 1960, he served in the Air Force form 1960-65 in the Cuban Crisis and Viet Nam. In October 1996 Bill retired from Local Union 933 Rolls-Royce, as a tool and dye operator.

He was a member of OES Milroy Chapter 471, Milroy FA&M #139, Scottish Rite and Murat Shriners of Indianapolis, Knights of Columbus , 40/8 of Shelbyville, Eagles Lodge 2036, Rushville, IN., American Legion Post 150 of Rushville, IN, being a 50 year member serving as Commander 1975-1976, Veterans of Foreign Wars serving as Post 1541 Commander in 1973, and 10th District Commander. Bill loved attending and watching racing, football, basketball, his grandkids sports and the Cincinnati Reds. He also bowled in a bowling league 3 nights a week at Rushville Bowl.

On August 22, 1977, he married Brenda Gorman Campbell Merrell, she survives. Also surviving in addition to his wife are daughter Keithanna Merrell Kidd (companion Joe Custer) of Rushville; step-son Donald (Tony) Campbell of Greenfield; step-daughters Roxanna (Mrs. Steve) Zimmerman of Knightstown & Angel Campbell Ragan of Rushville: special son Patrick Campbell (fiancé Kasey Crabtree) of Hagerstown, IN; grandson Seath Kidd, grand-daughter Keizer Kidd and Savannah Custer, step grand daughter Jennifer (Mrs. JR) Hatten of Rushville, and Jessica (Mrs. Boone) Keith of Rushville, step grandson Derek (wife Stormie) Bertrand of New Castle, step grand-daughters Stephanie and Alyssa Zimmerman and grandson JD Ragan and grand-daughter Kathleen Ragan and great-grandsons Ethan and Cale Campbell. 15 step grand children and 11 great-grand children. Also surviving are a sister Joann (Mrs. Jerry) Herbert and Brother Charles Merrell of Milroy, IN.

Deceased in addition to his parents and one sister is Brother PFC Keith Merrell, killed in 1969 during Vietnam War.

A Celebration of Life and Military Honors will be 11 AM Thursday Mar. 10, 2016 at Todd Funeral Centre & Crematory with Pastor Darryl Cooper officiating.
