James Edward Ellison, age 89, of Newport, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Morristown Hamblen Hospital. He was a member of the Centerview Missionary Baptist Church where he was the oldest deacon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Ellison, Sr. and Ethel Ellison; sister, Josephine Fitchgerald; sister-in-law, Mary Lynn Ellison; and brother-in-law, Fred Douglas.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Eloise Ellison of Newport; sons, Johnny (Geraldine) Ellison of Newport, Ricky (Debbie) Ellison of Newport, and Michael (Pam) Ellison of Newport; brother Joe Ellison, Jr. of Bybee; sister, Mary Nell Douglas of Bybee; grandchildren, Eric (Trisha) Ellison, Barry (Vanessa) Ellison, Kristina (Johnee) Barnett, Lindsay Ellison, Ashley Ellison, Amanda (Jarrad) Stump and Eliza (Erik) Cueto; great- grandchildren, Emily, Elaina, Elivia, Alex, Landin, Amelia, Dylan, Jesse and Maddison; and special friend, Carl (Rusty) Ottinger.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the Centerview Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Ball and Rev. Bobby Samples officiating. Burial will follow in the Centerview Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Tuesday prior to funeral service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday, March 7, 2016 at Manes Funeral Home. Family and friends may sign the guest register online at www.manesfuneralhome.com.
