Mr. Donald Frederick Solter, 94, of Canton, Missouri, died February 10, 2016 at the Lewis County Nursing Home in Canton, Missouri.

He was born on November 21, 1921 in Sioux County, Iowa a son of Chalmer George William and Viola Caroline Matilda Lahr Solter.

He married Edna Herren Blakely in Canton, Mo., on September 24, 1982. She survives.

Donald graduated from Hudson High School in South Dakota. He and his brother Marion owned and operated a dairy farm west of LaGrange, Missouri, for many years. He served in the Army at the end of World War II where he served in Europe. Donald was a life time member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife Edna Solter of Canton; step children, Linda Wagner of Donnellson, Iowa, Donna (Hemming) Boos (Art) of Baldwin, Wisconsin Sue (Richard) Hewitt and Charles (Penny) Blakely both of Keokuk, Iowa, Richard (Carrie) Blakely of Tulsa, Oklahoma; step grandchildren, Brian Wagner of Donnellson, Iowa, Danny (Christina) Blakely of Whispering Pines, North Carolina, Charles (Buffy) Hemming of Belle Chase, Louisiana, Deanna Hemming of Canton, Rex Hewitt of Keokuk, Iowa, Brenda Moss of Quincy, Illinois, Norma Burgess of Keokuk, Iowa, and Josh Blakely of Tulsa, Oklahoma; several step great grandchildren; sister, Thelma Clark of Canton and sister-in-law, Alice Lee Solter of La Grange, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Martha Kreum; brothers, Marion and Arnold Solter, and stepson David Wagner.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Home in Canton, Missouri, with Pastor Harry Cooper officiating.

Burial with military honors will be in Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton, Missouri.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Home. Music: Recorded selections. Pallbearers: Kirby Clark, Steve Clark, Doug Clark, Brian Wagner, Wes Kreum and Jim Bollin. Honorary Pallbearers: Ronnie Herren and Jamie Herren.

The family suggests memorials be made to Otto Bruner Post 170 of the American Legion in care of Davis Funeral Home, Canton, Missouri.
