Frank James Murdock, 76, passed away at The Gardens in Rigby, Idaho on March 1, 2016 of complications of Parkinson’s Disease.
Frank was born July 28, 1939 in Driggs, Idaho, to Ezra A. Murdock and Mattie Fitzpatrick Piquet Murdock. His father ran sheep and farmed, so Frank grew up jumping sagebrush, hunting, driving tractors, and riding horses--the ideal life for a boy!
He was a Boy Scout patrol leader and became an Eagle Scout. He participated in high school sports, choir, and band. He graduated from Teton High School in 1957 where he taught High School Algebra as a senior. He joined the Idaho National Guard while in High School and received his Honorable Discharge six years later.
He received his Associate of Arts in Mathematics with a minor in Engineering from Ricks College in 1959 and then he went on to serve an LDS mission in Brazil from 1959-1962.
On June 6, 1963, he married Connie May Shurtliff in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
In 1965 he graduated from BYU with a Masters of Accounting and a minor in economics. In 1966 he passed the California CPA exam and was a practicing CPA until 2011.
Frank worked as a CPA for Peat, Marwick & Mitchell & Company in Los Angeles, taught accounting at Cal Poly in Pomona, CA and ISU in Pocatello. He was an internal auditor for Pomona Savings and Loan. He opened a Taylor Rental Center in Idaho Falls in 1972.
After a few years, he sold that business and he and Connie started refurbishing houses and selling them. He retired as an auditor for the Idaho Department of Labor in April 2008. For many years he processed tax returns part-time.
Church callings have included Scout Master, Varsity and Explorer Advisor, Young Men’s President, Ward Clerk, Executive Secretary, Bishop’s Counselors, Stake Internal Auditor, Bishop, High Councilor, Stake Missionary, Ward Mission Leader, and High Priest Group Leader. He said "Yes" to all callings.
He was the Teton Peak Council Eagle Scout Committee Chairman. Frank had a deep love and concern for the founding fathers of the USA. He always worked to help preserve our sacred Constitution.
One of the highlights of Frank’s life was being able to serve a mission with his wife at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple Visitor’s Center. This was a great growing experience for Frank. During this time he said his love deepened even more for his wife. They were able to teach the gospel of Jesus Christ to many people. After their mission, he and his wife were able to serve as officiators at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, which was a beautiful experience for them.
Frank and Connie were blessed with seven children, 29 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Frank has been a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Connie; their children: Ryan (Brenda) Murdock, of Murray, UT, Dan (Brittney) Murdock, of Syracuse, UT, Daren (Dottie) Murdock, Melanie (Greg Norrell) Murdock, Todd (Kimberly) Murdock, Chad (Lesa) Murdock, and Kaylin (Benjamin) Manwaring, all of Idaho Falls; his treasured grandchildren; and siblings: Mary Jean (Dix) Waddell, of Houston, TX, Allan (Irene) Murdock, of Salt Lake City, UT, and Don (Kathy) Murdock, of Pocatello.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2016 at the Sand Creek LDS 3rd Ward (2545 Mesa St.), with President Chris Brown officiating. The family will meet with friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Wood Funeral Home (963 S. Ammon Road) and from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery, with military rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team.
