Hester Isabella ("Belle") Sherlock was born in Maungakaramea, New Zealand. She was a daughter of Jonathan Wigmore and Ann (Purcell) Sherlock. In 1880, she married, first, Lewis Smith in Montana. They divorced. She married, second, Errendle Franklin Nave on 18 Sept. 1894 in Great Falls, Mont. They had five children.

Hester Nave, 95, of Butte, Dies Saturday

Hester Isabelle Nave, 05, died peacefully Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ernest Rider of Butte. She had been living in Butte with her daughter since 1944. Mrs. Nave, born May 9, 1894, in Maungakaramea, New Zealand, was one of 10 children of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Sherlock of Cork, Ireland. The Sherlocks had moved to New Zealand in 1858 and operated a sheep ranch. In 1873 they moved to California and in 1873 came to the Crow Creek Valley by covered wagon, the trip took seven months. She is survived by a brother Will Sherlock of Townsend; two daughters, Mrs. Agnes Cordy of Los Angeles and Elsie Allison of Bozeman; two sons, Sherlock Nave of Townsend and Maurice Nave of Maple Valley, Wash.; and seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1914. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Connors Chapel in Townsend with interment at Radersburg Cemetery.
