Cleo Anderson passed away peacefully in the Madera home she had lived in for nearly fifty years. Her two year trial with cancer revealed an incredible inner strength and courage.

Cleo was born the youngest of five children on a homestead in Montoya, NM. At the age of two she and her family moved by horse and wagon to Belen, NM. When she was seven, the family moved again, settling in Porterville, CA.

She graduated from Hollywood High in 1932 and earned a degree in nursing from L.A. General Hospital in 1937.

She worked as a nurse in Springville, CA. until her marriage to Maurice V. Anderson in March of 1941, when they set up housekeeping in Fresno.

In 1942, Maurice enlisted in the Army Air Corps. and the newlyweds were relocated to Texas, where Cleo worked as a private duty nurse.

Following Maurice's discharge from the service in 1946, they moved to Madera, where they raised their four children.

Cleo continued to work in her chosen profession throughout the remainder of her career, retiring in 1980 as a school nurse in charge of five different elementary schools in Madera.

Cleo was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and of her family. She was a modern woman for her time, yet still embodied traditional homemaking skills and values.

She had an artistic side, was an accomplished photographer and along with Maurice, was an enthusiastic member of the Madera Camera Club for many years. She loved music and live theatre, knowledge and the pursuit of it, nature, all of God's creatures, and especially little children.

She was devout in her faith and was a active member of the Madera United Methodist Church for sixty years, singing in the choir and serving on a number of outreach committees. She also was a long time member of Rebekah Lodge. Her family feels blessed to have had her as long as they did.

Preceded in death by Maurice and her own immediate family, Cleo is survived by her daughters Cecelia Bock of Madera and Susan Anderson and her husband Richard Ravel of San Jose, CA; sons David and his wife Maureen of Visalia and Douglas and his wife Ana Maria Angel-Anderson of Longmont, CO; sisters-in-law Elizabeth Welts of Sacramento, CA and Honor Anderson of Oklahoma City, OK. Cleo's grandchildren include Lisa and Brad Greene, Erik and Janette Bock, Todd and Mindy Bock, David and Lindsay Ravel, and Anna and Natasha Anderson.

Her seven great-grandchildren include Brandon Hutchison, Brady Greene, Kelsey and Caleb Bock, Skyler, Sierra and Brooke Bock, her nieces and nephews include Buck Anderson, Tom Welts, Sally Jones, Cricket Oldham, Karen Blockland, Linda Moss, Georgette Murphy, Geraldine Clementi, Bob Patch and their families.
