News was received in Blair this week of the death of an old Washington County pioneer Stephen Butler, formerly of DeSoto, and late of Kingfisher, Oklahoma. His death occurred on July 6th and was caused by heat prostration. He was well known all over the county and respected by all his friends here. He leaves an aged wife and several grown sons and daughters to mourn his death. Many friends here sympathize with the family in their affliction.

On 10/24/1862 he mustered into "B" Co. NE 2nd Cavalry
He was Mustered Out on 12/23/1863
