WEEKS MILLS - Laura Margaret Dow Pierce, 92, of Weeks Mills, passed away on Monday, Sept. 14, 2015. She was born in Vassalboro, on April 8, 1923, and grew up in Windsor. She attended the one room school at Windsor Corner and graduated from Erskine Academy in South China. She was the daughter of Elmer Dow Jr. and Laverna Colebatch Dow.

On July 26, 1943, she married her high school sweetheart. During WWII she would travel to New York City to meet him when his ship came into port. After Vaughn was discharged from the Navy, they settled in Weeks Mills, and have lived there for 70 years.

Margaret loved the outdoors; cross country skiing, snow shoeing, fishing, berry picking, the ocean, and the entire natural world. She was an exceptional gardener. Her flower gardens were always colorful and filled with a variety of spectacular blooms. Because taking pictures was very important to her, she recorded her life in photographs. She loved to buy, sell and trade antiques and spent many happy hours digging for old bottles.

She and Vaughn spent many summer days entertaining family, friends and neighbors at their camp on China Lake, creating an abundance of wonderful memories for all, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her family life, she worked for the Maine Department of Taxation, retiring after 10 years.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Vaughn Pierce; her children, Emery Pierce and his wife Ann, Pam Berry, Priscilla Brann and her husband Bob, Scott Pierce and his wife Kyle; her grandchildren, Sean Pierce, Teague Berry, Betsy Brann Crocker, Justin Pierce, Ryan Pierce, Nathaniel Pierce, Christopher Pierce; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Dorothy Dow Baker, Francis Dow Newton, Bernard Dow, Thelma Dow, Connie Dow Mason; her grandson, Nathan Brann; niece, Joanne Mason Beauregard, and nephew David Newton.

A gathering in Margaret's honor will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m. at the Windsor Historical Society building on the Windsor Fair Grounds, Rt. 32, Windsor.
