Son of the late Alvin Owens and Shirley Prince, he was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Dale Owens. He was survived by his wife, Kathy Owens; son, Joshua Owens; grandson, Jasper Owens; and an extended family of relatives and friends. His funeral was held on February 10, 2016, at the Williams Fall Church of God with The Rev. Charlie Bruce officiating.
