She met Joseph F. Luttrell on a blind date on February 5, 1944. They married on June 12, 1944, in Oakland, CA.
Employment opportunities took them to Petaluma, Fresno, Porterville, Lindsay, Tulare and Visalia, CA.
They were blessed with three daughters, Sharon, Susan and Donna.
During their 35 year marriage, they became involved in CB radios, joining the Tulare CB Radio Club and May I Break Bunch traveling around the country as Mama Whip and Quick Change. Their engraving business provided folks with pins of all types.
Helen lost Joe in November of 1979, and never remarried. She kept busy by working for and retiring from the California Department of Motor Vehicles in Visalia.
In 1983, she began attending Visalia Oaks games. Known as the "No Swear Lady", she remained their number one fan until 2013, when illness required her to move north to be near family, thus preventing her from attending games.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Joe; parents, Ruby and Hubert; step-father, Orville Barkley; sisters, Delores and Joy; son-in-law, Tim Nolan; and great-grandson, Joshua Alexander Watson.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Sharon Salazar and husband Ruben of Roseville, CA, Susan Nolan of Salisbury, MD, and Donna Luttrell-Williams and wife Debbie of Fairfield, CA; ten grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; brothers, Bill, Jerry and Carl Barkley; sister, Betty Bell; aunt, Juanita Leak; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Inurnment will be with Joe at Liberty Veterans Cemetery, 1831 West Belmont Ave., Fresno, CA.
A Graveside Service will be held at Liberty Veterans Cemetery on Thursday February 11, 2016, at 1:00 p.m.
