The son of Sir Alfred Cooper and of Lady Marion Cooper. He served as a Captain in the 21st Squadron, Royal Flying Corps, and went missing in action and was later confirmed killed in action while carrying out a bombing raid on Epéhy Station, France.

There is a memorial plaque in his honor in Hyde Park, London, on the exterior of the Lido Pavilion built in his honor, just to the east of the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain.
