Enlisted, April 2, 1889, in Troop A Cavalry ( founding member ), NYNG. ( Squadron A ), New York City. Served in Troop A Cavalry till May 16, 1890.

His brother Henry Burnet Post was a member of Squadron A, 1910 - 11. He was killed as a pioneer Army aviator after setting the altitude record of 12,120 feet.

Commissioned, 2nd Lieutenant, Company H, 12th NY Infantry Regiment, New York City, March 25, 1895. Promoted to 1st Lieutenant, April 23, 1897. The 12th NY Infantry was call for the Spanish - American War, May 2, 1898, at Camp Black, Long Island, NY. Mustered in to federal service, May 13, 1898, as the 12th NY Volunteer Infantry Regiment. He was promoted Captain on May 13, 1898. The 12th NY Volunteer Infantry mustered out of federal service, April 20, 1899. He resigned from the 12th NY Infantry, October 24, 1899.

He was a member of the United States Olympic fencing teams of 1908( St. Louis, MO ) & 1912 ( Stockholm ).

Winning Gold in the Singlestick & Team foil,; Silver in Individual foil; Bronze in Individual sabre & epee
