"Frederick Dale "Freddie" Coleman, 84, of Alliance, passed away Monday, Oct. 5, in a Denver hospital following a brief illness.
He was born March 9, 1914, to Frederick M. and Opal E. (Gardner) Coleman at Broken Bow, Neb. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1932.
On March 20, 1936, he married Irene D. Moore in Alliance. He hired out on the C. B. & O Railroad in 1935 and retired as a conductor in 1975. He also worked as a painter for his father-in-law, O. C. Moore.
Freddie collected and rode motorcycles for nearly 70 years, beginning as a child. He and his wife, Irene, spent many happy times touring together, first on motorcycles and then in their motor home.
Gun collecting, hunting, shooting and fishing filled many hours. He avidly shared his interests with all three of his children. Freddie and Irene were also great fans of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Denver Broncos.
Freddie was a member of the National Rifle Association, the United Transportation Union and Alliance Eagles. He was an exempt volunteer for the Alliance Fire Department, having served many years.
He is survived by his wife, Irene, daughter Cheri (Geoff) Hopkins of Alliance, sons Bill (Beverly) of Alliance and Dick (Ruby) of Anthon, Iowa. In addition, he is survived by seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, a brother Millard R. (Helen) Coleman, of Boise, Idaho and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, E. Lee Coleman."
