Emma V. Collomore, of Prospect Street in Essex, died Wednesday at the Saybrook Convalescent Home after a long illness. She was 96.
In 1937 she borrowed $300 from the former Essex National Bank and opened The Essex Restaurant, where she served home-cooked meals until her retirement in 1969. The restaurant was popular for many years.
Besides her husband, Clifford Collomore, she is survived by a sister, Minnie Federline of Maryland; and two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St. Centerbrook. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery Essex. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. til 10 a.m. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Essex Fire Department Association, P.0.
