Emma V. Collomore, of Prospect Street in Essex, died Wednesday at the Saybrook Convalescent Home after a long illness. She was 96.

In 1937 she borrowed $300 from the former Essex National Bank and opened The Essex Restaurant, where she served home-cooked meals until her retirement in 1969. The restaurant was popular for many years.

Besides her husband, Clifford Collomore, she is survived by a sister, Minnie Federline of Maryland; and two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St. Centerbrook. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery Essex. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. til 10 a.m. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Essex Fire Department Association, P.0. Box 24, Ivoryton, CT 06442, or to the Essex Ambulance, P.O. Box 233, Ivoryton, CT 06442.
