Mr. Joseph Lawton Coleman, 62 of Blackshear died early Wednesday morning at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in Appling County, but had lived all of his life in Pierce County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Coleman and Mrs. Eva Jordan Coleman Smith, two brothers Grady W. Thornton, Sr. and Charles Coleman, and one sister Roberta Lovell.
He was a retired heavy equipment operator and farmer. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife Janet Lee Coleman of Blackshear, 3 daughters Michelle Coleman fiancÚ David Horton of Blackshear, Angela Coleman of Brunswick, and Samantha Miller husband Jimmy of Waynesville, 7 grandchildren, a brother Jerald Durance wife Linda of Montgomery, AL., mother-in-law Margaret Wilson of Waverly, GA., several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Ramah Primitive Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 9 PM at the funeral home.
Smith Funeral Home, Blackshear, GA was in charge of arrangements.
