Norfolk - Sara Hurdle Ballenger, a native of Edenton, NC, and a resident of Norfolk, VA since 1960, passed away early on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2015 in her home where she was surrounded by her friends.
A former member of Edenton United Methodist Church, and a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Norfolk, VA, she had retired as an Administrative News Assistant with WTKR TV after 27 years of employment.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard William and Tallew Spruill Hurdle; her husband, Earl L. "Bill" Ballenger; her sisters, Elizabeth Hurdle and Etta Mae Hurdle Bateman; and by her brothers, Horace Robert Hurdle and William Muriel Hurdle.
Surviving are a niece, Muriel Bateman Greenlease; a nephew, Robert Horace Hurdle; and two great-nieces, Kelly and Whitney.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. on the family plot in Beaver Hill Cemetery in Edenton and will be officiated by the Rev. W. Christopher Aydlett. Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, is handling arrangements.
In accordance with her wishes, flowers are to be omitted and memorial contributions made to a favorite charity .
A special thank you to the nurses and caregivers of Bon Secours Hospice for the compassionate care given to Mrs. Ballenger.
