Joseph Franks came to White Co, TN around 1800 with a group of Franks to , receive land grants from the government in an effort to speed up the populating of the new country,Joseph set out to do several things to support that effort (establish White County's first ferry to bring newcomers into the county, encourage the goverment to lay out a town at the top of the ferry hill to accomidate newcomers, Because the ferry was at the upstream limit of navigable water, he proposed that newcomers could arrive by boat as well as covered wagona and horseback, he asked that the Franks Ferry Post Office be established which it was.he proposed that Franks Ferry be designated a shipping point for tobacco grown by the newcomers to be sold AND he was elected or appointed White County's first ever Court Judge. Then a group of the land grant holders got into a heated dispute over the very poorly marked land grant lines and were summoned into court to settle their differences. Joseph knew this dispute would destroy his plans for the county so he chose to take his family to Marion Co, AL and likely on to Itawamba CO, MS where there are probably 3 to 400 Franks buried with over 70 in the Keyes Cemetery so that is where Joseph and his wife, Rebecca are listed with a burial site unknown until someone comes forward with better information to the contributor, Ralph Franks

Sadly Mr. Franks passed away. Please visit his memorial and leave a token flower of appreciation, for his many wonderful contributions to furthur familyhistory!
