Freddie Don Herd, 73, of Lexington, North Carolina, died peacefully on Nov. 2, 2015, at his home. No local services are planned.

He was born Aug. 3, 1942, in Theodosia, the son of Fred and Veda Cole Herd. He graduated in 1961 from Gainesville High School. He married Margureitte Shaw in Gainesville. He operated a locker plant at Ocie for a few years, then the Herds left Ozark County and he found work at Select Products in Lansing, Kansas. Mr. Herd became a custom cabinetmaker and continued that work the rest of his career.

He is survived by his son, Donald (Keith) Herd and wife Shawna of Pontiac; his daughter Theresa Lynn Hall and husband Randy of Brantley, Alabama; grandchildren Donald K. Herd Jr. and Elizabeth Herd of Pontiac and Tina Lowe of Luverne, Alabama; great-granddaughters Grace Lowe and Sophie Lowe and Brandie Hall of Luverne; current wife Frankie Herd of North Carolina; his father, Fred Herd of Topeka, Kansas; and brother Bobbie Dale Herd and wife Peggy of McLouth, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Veda Cole Herd, and his brother, Thomas Dean Herd.
