Eleanor and her twin sister, Grace, were the children of John and Katie Evans, who preceded them in death. She married Albert Victor Astbury in England and then sailed to Canada on their honeymoon in 1906. After the birth of their daughter, Doris Eleanor, in Canada, they moved to Joliet, Illinois, where another daughter, Lillian Alberta, and a son, Albert John, were born.
