Frances Keeling Burton was born at "Nine Oaks" in N.C., the daughter of James Minge Burton and Elizabeth née Ridley, She married Thomas J. Green at Chapel Hill in 1818. They had issue, according to W.J. Carrrington's History of Halifax County (1924):

Carrington also tells a harrowing tale of Frances Green seeking refuge in a cave during Nat Turner's Rebellion nearby, hidden by Dick, a sympathetic enslaved person held by her husband.
