Motor racing driver. Hugh Caulfield "Hammy" Hamilton was born in Omagh, Co. Tyrone. In 1933 he crashed badly in the Masaryk Okruh. He was racing an MG Midget there to promote business for a recently opened Prague MG dealership. He was on the danger list for a number of days and apparently fully recovered after a lengthy convalescence. He resumed racing the following year travelling to Switzerland to race with Whitney Straight's team at the Bremgarten circuit at Berne. He raced in the Voiturette race but his car developed a misfire and had to retire. In the main race, the Grand Prix, Hans Stuck won easily but Hamilton driving a Maserati 8CM crashed into a tree whilst lying 6th on the last lap and was killed. A post mortem revealed that his heart had stopped before the crash, and it was felt that this was a result of the injuries received the previous year.
