| Birth: | Jan. 10, 1831 Coventry Chenango County New York, USA | | Death: | Apr. 30, 1914 Portland Multnomah County Oregon, USA |  US Congressman, Diplomat. He attended Alfred University, became a teacher, and moved to Iowa and later to Oregon. He studied law and became an attorney in 1860. He served as District Attorney in 1860 and again from 1862 to 1866. In 1862 he served in the Oregon House. In 1866 Mallory was elected to Congress as a Republican and served one term, 1867 to 1869. He was elected again to the Oregon House in 1872 and served as Speaker. In 1874 Mallory was appointed Oregon's US Attorney and held the position until 1882. He then accepted appointment as US Special Representative to British Malaya. At the completion of this diplomatic assignment in 1883 he left Singapore and returned to Oregon to resume his law practice.
