Avedis was the son of Toros & Mariam Sookiasian of Malatya, Turkey. Avedis immigrated to America via Alexandrette and arrived at Ellis Island June 19, 1899. He joined a M. Zeroun Garoglanian in New York City. He first married Turvanda Anna Najarian, the daughter of Hagop Najarian and Varter Mardigian, on July 16, 1910. She died after giving birth to a daughter that was named Turvanda after her, but this child died a month later as well. Avedis then married Maritza Terzian on November 15, 1913 and they had two daughters Rose and Elizabeth. A divorce was granted August 13, 1923 at which time Avedis had moved to New York City where he ran a restaurant. In 1933 the year before his death, a city directory listed him as Charles Soukiasian at the address 328 W Houston St, Manhattan, New York. At his death he was living at 155 East 29th Street in Manhattan. He died of pyelonephritis (kidney disease) and uremia just three days after his sister Margaret's death, it is not known if he had learned of her death. His grave which is unmarked was purchased by a fellow Armenian, and two other Armenians were buried there in the following years. While a diagram exists of the grave's location, it was not possible to match the diagram to any stones now in that area and so the exact location appears to be lost at the current time. These pictures are of what is believed to be the general area of the grave and the diagram itself. His last name has multiple spellings, and is Sukiasian on the diagram.
